Pawn Stars' "Chumlee" facing criminal charges

Many people in Georgia regularly watch the television program "Pawn Stars" on the History Channel. One of the stars of the show, Austin "Chumlee" Russell, was charged with drug and gun crimes on March 15, according to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Reportedly, officers secured a search warrant in a sexual assault matter and went to Mr. Russell's house to serve it on him. During their search, they allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana and a gun. He was taken into custody and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Mr. Russell is currently not facing any charges related to the sexual assault allegations, but police say that investigation is not over. As of the date of the initial report he was still in custody and had not posted bond. Mr. Russell has appeared regularly on "Pawn Stars" since the show first started in 2009. The History Channel did not comment on his criminal charges.

When people are charged with felonies, they may want to retain a criminal defense attorney as soon as they are able to do so. A felony charge may result in a person's being imprisoned for a substantial period of time if convicted. Defense counsel may begin investigating the client's case immediately. Through their own investigation, attorneys may uncover problems with the prosecution's case against their client. They may also locate favorable witnesses and obtain mitigating evidence that they can use in plea negotiations with the prosecutor. In a drug possession or trafficking case, there could also be a constitutional challenge mounted at the way the search that led to the seizure of the drugs was handled by authorities.
