Georgia residents might recognize Danny Ware from his time as a running back for the University of Georgia or because of his career in the NFL with the New York Giants, but the football player is not in the news for his athletic accomplishments this time. Ware reportedly spent time in jail starting on May 7 for a driving under the influence of alcohol charge.
Ware was booked into the Athens-Clarke County Jail at 9:12 p.m., and it appears that he was scheduled to serve 24 hours there. This means he might not have been detained that night but was serving time for a prior charge that took place last year. Authorities stopped Ware early on May 6, 2015 and eventually charged him with speeding, reckless driving, DUI and possession of marijuana.
The athlete was part of the team that won the 2005 SEC Championship, and he then spent seven years in the NFL where he played with the New York Giants, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tennessee Titans and the New York Jets. He spent five years with the Giants and was part of the team for two of their Super Bowl wins. Ware had one incident during this time as he was charged with being a pedestrian under the influence and a pedestrian in the roadway in 2008.
The consequences one might receive for a drunk driving conviction could vary greatly based on factors like one's age, blood alcohol concentration, the damage caused and previous DUI convictions. Those with past convictions and persons under the age of 21 might face harsh penalties along with those who injured someone or caused property damage, and one may face fines, a license suspension, the required use of an ignition interlock device or jail time. As a result, the assistance of a criminal defense attorney can be advisable when trying to combat the charges or lessen their impact.
